Kate Costas is a recurring character in Season 3 of Frasier, portrayed by Mercedes Ruehl.
Character[]
Kate becomes the new station manager of KACL in She's The Boss and quickly makes her presence felt. She first fires Father Mike, due to his show having low ratings, and temporarily banishes Frasier and Roz to the overnight shift after Frasier rejected her suggestion to do theme shows. Eventually, Kate and Frasier come to a compromise, though the love-hate relationship continues until they end up having an affair during a labor dispute.
In It's Hard To Say Goodbye If You Won't Leave, Kate resigns from KACL after accepting a new job offer in Chicago. She is eventually replaced on-screen by Kenny Daly, who remains the station manager until the end of the series before being replaced by Roz.
She succeeded Tom Duran as station manager. Kate once had her finger tip bitten off, when a lizard attacked her rather than Bulldog. She describes herself as a cat person, owning a cat, and she can also speak Japanese.
