The Good Father is the first episode from the first season of the 2023 sitcom Frasier. It aired on October 12, 2023 on Paramount+.

Synopsis

After the loss of his father, Frasier Crane goes back to his alma mater, Harvard University, to give a guest lecture as a personal favor to his Harvard classmate, Alan Cornwall. While in Boston, Frasier visits his son, Frederick Crane, who's working as a firefighter in town. Their relationship has been strained since Frederick dropped out of Harvard and skipped his grandfather's funeral. Frasier meets Eve, Frederick's roommate, who he mistakes for Frederick's girlfriend, and tries to reconnect with his son, while Olivia, Alan's boss, attempts to recruit him to teach at Harvard. Freddy looks to hide his living situation from his father, but ultimately admits that he missed Martin's funeral due to survivor's guilt, having recently lost a fellow firefighter, who was also Eve's boyfriend. Hearing this, Frasier decides to buy Freddy's apartment building and accept the teaching position in the hopes that he can become a bigger part of Freddy's life.

Trivia

• This episode was filmed on February 3, 2023. However, the final scene, unveiling Frasier's new apartment to Frederick and Eve, was actually filmed at the beginning of the second taping on February 10, 2023 due to the size of the apartment set not fitting on stage during this first taping.
• The Frasier episode: "The Good Father", aired on CBS on October 17, 2023, along with "Moving In".
• This episode was dedicated to the memories of Gabrielle James, Archie Lyndhurst and John Mahoney. James was a script supervisor for Cheers and Frasier who died in 2022. Lyndhurst was the son of series star Nicholas Lyndhurst who died in 2020. Mahoney who played Martin Crane in the first series died in 2018. The episode pays tribute to character of Martin revealing he has died. In addition to the credits, Mahoney is honoured by having the new bar Mahoney's and Eve's son John named after him.
• The episode title, The Good Father, is a reference to the title of the first episode of Frasier from 1993: The Good Son.
