Whine Club is the 17th episode of Season 7 of Frasier.
Synopsis[]
NILES' GIRLFRIEND SCHEMES TO MAKE FRASIER A WHINY WINE WIZARD -- Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) hosts an informal brunch in order to acquaint himself with Niles' (David Hyde Pierce) lady love Mel (guest star Jane Adams), but little does he know that the plastic surgeon is a manipulative schemer who slickly wants to push Niles out in front of his brother -- even if it's only to contest Frasier for the coveted post of Corkmaster of their snooty wine club. Trivia[]
- In this episode, it is revealed that Mel is allergic to Eddie. However, when Mel first meets Frasier and Martin in The Late Dr. Crane, Mel has no problem with Eddie when he comes up to her and licks her face.
- Niles (David Hyde Pierce) incorrectly identifies the wine stain on Frasier's (Kelsey Grammer) neck tie as being a Merlot in "Odd Man Out"; it is in fact a Cabernet. Ironically, in Season 7's "Whine Club", it is his ability to distinguish Merlot from Cabernet that wins him the coveted post of Corkmaster over Frasier for the wine club.
- The song Daphne sings in this episode is "Anne Boleyn" by The Kingston Trio.
- In this episode we are introduced to the widow of Stan Wojadubakowski (Anita Gillette). We first hear the name, however, in The Dog That Rocks The Cradle earlier this season when Martin returns from Stan's funeral. The name also comes up in Season 9's The Proposal where it is used as a sobriety test for Martin.
- Roz refers to Mel as the girl in the plastic bubble at one point. Coincidentally, this phrase is also the title of the Cheers episode in which Frasier attempts suicide when his marriage to Lilith Sternin is doomed.
